Ornithoptera butterfly, 1840s natural history plate with vivid green-blue wings and fine detail.
Vintage Butterfly Plate – Order your 1840s Ornithoptera Birdwing Art Print
Create your print now. This 19th‑century natural history plate showcases a striking birdwing butterfly posed in perfect symmetry on a warm ivory background. Bands of jade, lemon, and cool turquoise transition into deep black, with scalloped spots tracing the lower wings. Fine French captions sit beneath the specimen, while small margin sketches show larval segments and delicate mouthparts. Crisp linework, hand‑tinted color, and subtle paper grain give the artwork a calm, museum‑ready presence.

What Our Customers Say
Thanks for the fast shipping. It arrived just in time for the 18th birthday! :)
Over the years, I have used the free software with full satisfaction, but now I have purchased the professional edition of Foto-Mosaik-Edda. It works wonderfully, I almost lack the imagination to create beautiful artworks. (I have meanwhile gathered a collection of 171 types of Tiles.)
Delivery time was very short! The quality of the product and the packaging were very good.
Premium Materials:
Materials matter. Our poster has a silky matte surface with UV protection. The framed poster comes in solid wood frames in black, white, or natural. Canvas is stretched on a sturdy 2 cm wooden frame. Alu‑Dibond offers a rigid, gallery‑flat look with UV laminate. Foam board is lightweight yet robust for easy mounting. Acrylic glass delivers depth and fine‑art clarity.
Your Artwork
in just a few steps
Here’s how it works: choose your size, pick your finish—poster, framed poster, canvas, acrylic, Alu‑Dibond, or foam board—select a frame color if you like, and preview the result. Add to cart and you’re done. We produce your piece locally with premium inks and ship it safely, ready to hang.
Get inspired...
Look closer at the motif and you’ll spot the balanced geometry of wide upper wings and rounded lowers, edged with dark, scalloped borders. The scientific annotations and subtle side diagrams add context without stealing focus, blending art and observation. The palette—jade, citron, teal, and ink—keeps the scene fresh and contemporary despite its archival roots.

Shipping Method: Standard
We aim to use our resources as efficiently and eco-friendly as possible, so it takes up to three business days to produce your picture. After that, the picture will be shipped via standard delivery the next day. The shipping time by the delivery service usually takes between one to five business days (for bulky goods, such as large canvas/acrylic/Dibond formats).
Shipping Method: Express
Like with standard shipping, we aim to optimize production capacities for express shipping
and minimize excessive waste and constant switching between different product types.
Therefore, we allow up to three business days for production. After production,
the picture is shipped express and should arrive the next day. The costs are passed
directly to you without any markup.
Note: Express shipping is unfortunately not available for certain products – you can see if it is available in the cart.
Shipping Method: Priority Express
With Priority Express, or express production, we pause ongoing production
for a product type and prioritize your picture for same-day production
(if the order is received before 8:00 AM). As this interrupts our workflow,
it incurs a significant additional effort for us. This effort is charged
with an express production surcharge. After production, your picture is express
shipped and should arrive the next day.
Note: Priority Express shipping is unfortunately not available for certain products – you can see if it is available in the cart.
Payment Options
We make payment easy. Choose from a wide range of payment options, including payment by invoice, PayPal, credit card, and more. Our shop requires no registration or customer account. Pay in just a few clicks, and we'll start producing your personalized artwork.
